Paddy Pimblett gained more than 10 pounds in a few minutes after weighing in for the fight with King Green at UFC 304

Paddy Pimblett’s bulk after weighing in for UFC 304 started just moments after he had tipped the scales yesterday.

The lightweight prospect faces King Green in the early hours of Sunday morning in Manchester, after successfully making weight for his sixth UFC outing. He faces a stiff test in the American, and looks to be in tremendous shape for the homecoming fight.

Paddy Pimblett has said that after an initial struggle with his mental health, he has ended up having the best camp of his career. And he showed off the severity of his weight cut in a new video blog released today, just hours before heading to the octagon.

In a new video uploaded to YouTube today, Pimblett showed off the difficult process of making weight for his UFC 304 fight. This one was an even further struggle due to the timings of tonight’s event, which is being held in the middle of the night local time in Manchester.

Usually, official weigh-ins will take place from around 9-11am on a Friday morning, before a Saturday fight night. But given that the fights technically take place in the early hours of Sunday morning, they were pushed back to 3pm.

This caused more hassle for Pimblett, who started the hard graft on Thursday afternoon. He was 12lb over the limit when he began training and getting a sweat on before heading to the pre-fight press conference where he faced off with Green.

When he woke up on Friday morning, Pimblett was 163lb, meaning that he had to cut 8lb to get down to where he needed by 3pm. He spent 25 minutes in a hot bath and then a further 20-25 minutes in a sauna blanket.

After that stage he was 160lb, and needed four more before getting to official weight. He noted that “some people can’t handle it,” before insisting that he “ain’t no p****,” and that he just needed to get through the struggle.

“I just try and think ‘if I don’t get through this now how am I going to get through my opponent?” He told cameras recording his final moments in the bath. “How am I going to get through anyone I fight; Bobby Green, Tony Ferguson, Jared Gordon, any of them if I can’t get through a f***ing bath or sauna blanket?”

Eventually Pimblett made the limit and showed off his dark blue tongue, which he referred to as ‘Jolly Rancher mouth’.

The Liverpool native made it down to the official weigh-ins for the fight, tipping the official scales at 156lb right on the extended lightweight limit. Should he ever reach the point of fighting for a title again like he did in Cage Warriors, he will need to lose a further pound to hit 155lb on the button.

After the fact, he immediately returned to his room and ate a series of foods that were ‘high carbohydrate, low fiber, with low fat and medium protein.’ His coach Paul Reed then explained how the re-fuelling process worked.

“It’s all about the fluids and then simple cabohydrates to start with,” he noted. After eating a carefully selected meal, Pimblett took to the scales in his room and was already up at 166.3lb, meaning he had lost and gained back 10lb within a matter of hours.
